45-year-old man arrested for sexually assaulting 6-year-old girl
MALE, July 30, 2007 -- A man from Addu atoll Feydhoo island was arrested by the Maldives Police Service yesterday for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl. The unidentified man who was arrested for the crime was a 45-year-old who neighbours claimed was also a relative of the little girl. “The man who sexually molested the little girl was her relative,” the neighbour said. “When the incident occurred, the girl’s mother had been away in Gan for work. And her father was also not in town. It is believed that the man had been coming over to the house hoping for just such an opportunity for many days now. However, no one at the house knew this. The assault has left the little girl traumatized and physically hurt. She was experiencing vaginal bleeding and was immediately taken to the Health Centre.”

The In-Charge of the Gan Police Station, Sub Inspector Hamdhoon Rasheed, said that they had arrested the man when the family had reported the crime to the police and that they were now investigating the case.

“We can reveal further details once the investigation is over,” he said. “Investigations such as these are conducted under full cooperation with the Social Protection Service Centre in the atoll.”

Earlier this year a 60-year-old man was arrested for sexually molesting a 5-year-old girl.

"All relationships grow a bit stale as time goes by, and the longer-lasting they are, the staler they can get. The best thing you can do is pump in some fresh air. A long weekend in a romantic hideaway would be ideal, but even a few hours in a motel helps. Don't tell anyone where you are, turn off your cell phones, and unplug the TV. When you get home, you'll find your relationship has acquired ruddy cheeks."
— Dr. Ruth Westheimer, psychosexual therapist and author of 52 Lessons on Communicating Love

With books on the market like How to Make Love Like a Porn Star, one of the greatest services you can do for a guy is to reassure him that he doesn't have to make love like a porn star. You can show him how to have sex like a woman: creative, sensual, non-genital-based, and more pleasure- than orgasm-focused." — Ian Kerner, PhD, author of She Comes First

"Change from a critical habit of mind, in which you're very involved with your partner's mistakes, to a positive one, in which you catch him doing something right." — John M. Gottman, PhD, author of The Relationship Cure: A 5 Step Guide to Strengthening Your Marriage, Family, and Friendships

"When your relationship starts to break down, you need AAA: an Apology, Affection, and a promise of Action. You say you're sorry for what you've said or done to hurt or disappoint your partner. You immediately offer a hug, a kiss—some meaningful gesture of warmth. You pledge to do something that matters to your partner." — Mira Kirshenbaum, psychotherapist and author of The Weekend Marriage

Stop all shame, blame and criticism. Instead ask for what you want in a clear, specific and positive manner, and express appreciation for your partner. To elaborate: Men need to feel competent—that they make a contribution and that it is noticed." Harville Hendrix, PhD, author of Getting the Love You Want

- Chocolate 'lowers' blood pressure -

A mouthful of dark chocolate each day could reduce blood pressure, cutting the risk of stroke, research suggests.

Forty-four people with raised blood pressure were put into two groups. One ate six grams of dark chocolate daily, the other the same amount of white.
The first group saw blood pressure fall slightly, but the others saw no change, researchers wrote in the Journal of American Medicine (JAMA).
The British Heart Foundation warned chocolate was a "treat not treatment".

Fat and sugar

The suggestion that cocoa has health benefits is not new, and previous research had also suggested it could bring down blood pressure.

It is important to remember that chocolate is also high in fat and calories so over-indulgence is not good for your heart

this has been attributed to the chemical plant substances known as flavanols which it contains.
However it had been thought that large quantities were needed to achieve the desired effect, and that the benefits would then be offset by the consequences of consuming the high levels of fat and sugar associated with cocoa products.
But researchers at the University Hospital of Cologne say they have now shown that benefits can be achieved with a small amount - 30 calories worth of chocolate.
They looked at 44 people aged between 56 to 73 with either upper-range prehypertension (blood pressure between 130/85 and 139/89) or stage 1 hypertension (between 140/90 and 160/100).
None of those eating dark chocolate registered changes in body weight, or their levels of glucose and lipids.
But their systolic blood pressure - the upper reading which measures the force of blood as the heart beats - fell by 2.9mm, and their diastolic blood pressure - the lower figure taken as the heart relaxes - by 1.9mm.
The researchers noted that the reduction was small, but stressed that the effects were clinically noteworthy. A 3mm reduction in blood pressure could "reduce the relative risk of stroke mortality by 8%, of coronary artery disease by 5%, and of all cause mortality by 4%", they wrote.
They also stressed that asking people to consume a couple of chunks of chocolate a day was far easier than encouraging "complex behavioural changes" to help them reduce their blood pressure.
The British Heart Foundation's nutritionist Sara Stanner said it was "important to remember that chocolate is also high in fat and calories so over-indulgence is not good for your heart.
"Fruits and vegetables provide a range of polyphenols, as well as important vitamins and minerals. Eating five or more portions of fruit and vegetables a day is therefore the best way to protect your heart - and you don't need to worry about over-indulging."

iTs tHe LovE thAt MatTeRs !!!!

This is especially dedicated to all the people out there, who are afraid to express your true feelings to the person you love, just because of what others might think.

Life has never been one in which others make choices for you. We live life the way we want it, making sure that we go on the right path. Many of us continue to demand for the right of making our own decisions as we grow up. Unfortunately, the same demanding is not there while getting together with a person we love. While some of us continue, to listen to our hearts and choose the life they want, some of us decide to let go of the love they have, just for the sake of what some one might think or what someone might say.

In case of love, it does not matter what others think. All that matters is what you think. How you feel. If you love someone, you don’t need anyone’s approval to show him/her your true feelings. Countless number of boys have hidden their true feelings from the girl they love, not because he’s shy, or not because he doesn’t love her, but because his friends might disapprove. Relationships have been ruined. Friends have been separated.

I may not be an expert in the language of love, but from what I’ve seen, I believe that love doesn’t necessarily have to be limited to certain people. Fat or thin, short or tall, love remains the same always. Because you don’t love people for their appearance. You love people for the strong bonds that you share with them. You love them for the feelings you share with them. The “butterflies” you get in your stomach when you hear the name, the skipping of the heartbeat when you hear the voice and the understanding and trust. Its not the body we fall in love with, it’s the soul. Even the deaf and the dumb, the blind and the handicapped find soul mates. And the love that they share is the only reason that they are strong and willing to overcome all the obstacles that cross their paths. Life is never easy. But it never hurts to have with you the person you love.

Moving onto the society; we all attend weddings. Every day, two people unite together for a life time, and we are invited to celebrate with them, but how many of us actually even try to look for the love and compassion in the couple’s eyes? How many of us actually take the time to think of the reason they are together, instead of wondering, “God! Look at that! The girl’s taller than the guy” or “Why is she marrying a man double her size?” Yes, it may look bad to the eyes at times, but if we look at them and find the love between them, they don’t look so odd after all. In fact, they look like the perfect couple.

So, to all those who feel embarrassment in being frank to the person you love, remember that no one is perfect. Not you, not me, not anyone else. Why let go of true love, which cannot be found easily? Why live with pretence for the rest of your life? So tell them, tell them how you feel. Let them know that you are there. That you do care. That you want to be with them. Act like you, the one he/she fell in love with. Because in the end, it’s the love that matters, right?
